The wildlife rescue centre
Injured wild animals are found by ear, carried to the centre, nursed back to health and set free again where they belong. The centre is on Middle Valley, east of the pond. Open the rescue menu with slash rescue, or from the living world menu, slash world. Nobody enlists: anyone can help.
Rescue calls
Every 20 to 40 minutes, if players are out on the open maps, an injured wild animal is reported where some of them are: a fox cub, a leveret, a crow, a duckling, a roe deer fawn, a badger, a wolf pup, a song thrush, a wildcat kitten, a wild pony foal or a bear cub. Everyone on that map is told. Its cries sound every six to eight seconds, and you hear them within about 30 steps. Follow them and press shift enter right next to it: you see the signs of what is wrong. The rescue calls list in the menu gives a rough direction when you are on the same map. A call lasts 25 minutes; after that a warden takes the animal to the centre.
Carrying
To lift an animal you need a rescue carrier: 60 points at the centre's supply shelf, good for 5 trips. Each pick-up and each trip home uses one. You carry one animal at a time. Bring it to the centre and press shift enter there. If you leave the game or die on the way, the centre's van collects it after a minute; it is never lost.
Triage and the ward
At the centre, triage decides the first treatment: clean and dress a wound, splint a broken limb, give warm fluids and formula, give charcoal for poison, cut a snare and dress the cuts, or a dark quiet box for concussion. The right one uses a bandage roll, a splint, animal formula or charcoal tablets from your bag. The wrong one wastes the supply and the animal needs more care rounds. The vet's treatment notes explain every sign. In the ward each patient needs three to six care rounds, at least half an hour apart: read what it needs and feed it, clean its pen, or give its medicine. Anyone can do care rounds, up to 10 a day. The ward is saved and survives restarts.
Release
A recovered animal waits for the trip home. Whoever rescued it, or its sponsor, has the first hour. Take it in your carrier to a map of its kind of home: woodland, meadows, water or mountains; the notes list which maps. Stand in open ground, at least 40 steps from the centre, and press shift enter, or use Release in the rescue menu or use the carrier. You have two hours. A release gives 60 points, a Voyage Token, care points and a piece of your release collection.
Sponsorship
At the centre you can sponsor a patient for 40 points, up to 3 at a time. You name it, and you are told when it recovers and when it goes back to the wild, even if you were offline.
Supplies
The supply shelf sells the rescue carrier 60 points, the bandage roll 20, the splint 30, animal formula 25 and charcoal tablets 25, up to 12 items a day.
Ranks and rewards
Care points come from everything you do. Ranks: Volunteer, Rescuer at 250, Vet Nurse at 900, Wildlife Vet at 2500; each is also a title. Patron of the Wild is the title for five sponsored animals sent home. Trophies: the First Release photograph, the Golden Feeding Bottle for 100 care rounds, the Ark medal for releasing every kind of animal, and the Wildlife Vet's brass stethoscope. The weekly board counts animals released; the top three each Monday win a cup. Points from the centre are limited to 300 a day. You can turn the rescue call messages off in Privacy options, announcements.
Commands
Slash rescue opens the rescue menu. Slash release sets free the recovered animal you carry, if you stand in the right place. Both are also in the menu.
