Talents and life experience
What it is
Talents are your own personal tree of small comforts. You earn life experience by actually playing, and every level gives you one talent point to spend. Open the game menu, choose Village life, then More to do, then Talents and life experience. The shortcut is slash talents.
Earning life experience
About every five minutes the world notices what you have been doing. If you have been moving around, you earn experience for your time. If you have been working in a trade, such as farming, fishing or mining, you earn experience for your work as well. Standing still earns nothing, and time spent carrying an arena bag does not count.
There is a daily limit of six hundred experience, and at most three hundred of it can come from work. When you reach the limit you are told once, and a new day starts fresh.
Levels and titles
Choose Level and experience to hear your level, how far you are to the next one as ten bars, what you have earned today and this week, and your title. You hear a sound and a message each time you level up.
At level 10 you become a Settler, at level 25 an Old hand, and at level 50 a Living legend. Reaching level 50 is told to everyone who has not switched that news off in Privacy options.
The talent tree
There are four branches: Wanderer, Provider, Craftsman and Neighbour. Each has six talents, and each talent has three ranks. Every rank costs one point.
To open a talent you need the talent before it in the same branch, and some points spent in that branch: two for the second talent, four for the third, and so on up to ten for the last one. A locked talent tells you exactly what it still needs.
The last talent of each branch gives you a title, such as the Wanderer, which is added after your level title.
What talents do
Talents are small comforts and flavour. They never make items or points, and they never change fights in the arena or with other players.
Some raise the experience you earn in a certain way, for example for walking, for work, or for being near other people. Some raise your daily limits.
Others give you senses, found under Your senses in the talents menu: where you are, the hour and how long until sunrise or sunset, who is around you, how much ground you have covered, and your best trades.
Today's focus
Each day has a focus: walking the world, work in the trades, or time with other people. Experience from the focus is worth a quarter more. The Second chance talent lets you change the focus once a day for each rank.
The weekly bonus day
One day each week is a bonus day. It changes from week to week. On that day experience counts double and your daily limits are doubled too. Level and experience tells you which day it is.
Cheering someone on
Choose Cheer someone on and type the name of a player who is in the world. They get a little experience and a friendly chime, and you get a little too. You can cheer once a day, and never the same person twice in one day. The Kind words talent gives you more cheers.
Builds
You can keep two builds, each with its own set of talents and a name you choose. Choose Builds to switch between them or rename them. Both builds use the same points. You can switch once every ten minutes.
Starting again
Start this build again gives back every talent point spent in the build you are using. The first time is free. After that it costs five hundred ln point from your bag, going up by five hundred each time to at most five thousand, and those ln point leave the game. The Tinkerer talent makes it 20 percent cheaper for each rank. You cannot pay it while you carry an arena bag.
Leaderboards
Choose Leaderboards to hear the top twenty players by level, and the top twenty by experience earned this week. The week starts on Monday. Each board also tells you your own place.
