Horse riding, feeding and snares

Riding your horse

Any horse of your own can be ridden: a horse in your barn, or your own horse at the Riding Club in Sunflower Valley. Only the owner can ride a horse (for a barn horse, also the owner's husband or wife).

To bring a barn horse out, stand at your barn, press shift and Enter, and choose Bring out a horse and ride it. You can also open the game menu, Life plus, Horse riding and snares, or type /ride. Mount a club horse at the club.

A horse needs at least 30 loyalty and must not be sick. A club horse needs some stamina left; riding uses a little each minute.

Riding is like driving

Hold the Up arrow to ride on. The horse sets off at a walk and builds up to a trot, a canter and a gallop; it stops when you let go.

Left and right arrows turn you. The Down arrow reins in one pace at a time.

T lets the horse go faster, alt T holds it to a slower pace. Q makes it neigh.

Shift and Page Up climbs a slope ahead. Shift and Page Down eases down a bank of up to four steps. Climbing and going down are done at a trot at most.

On phones and tablets: swipe up and hold to ride, swipe down and hold to slow down, swipe left or right to turn.

Shift and Enter while riding opens the horse menu. Escape, or /dismount, gets you off, and the horse goes home to its barn by itself.

While you ride only the hooves are heard: you and everybody near you hear the horse, not your feet. Better breeds gallop faster.

You ride across to the next map like a car does, but not indoors, not on the motorway, and not onto the sea or a journey.

Safety

A horse wades through shallow water, but it never goes where you would need a boat: deep water, the open sea and the boat routes.

It does not go through walls or trees, and it does not go indoors.

You hear a warning before a steep drop, and the horse stops at the edge.

If you keep forcing it over an edge, the horse is hurt and you are thrown off.

A hurt barn horse falls sick: treat it with animal medicine or a doctor.

A hurt club horse goes lame for six hours, or until you treat it with one animal medicine from the Horse riding menu.

Getting into a car or onto a bike, entering an arena, a journey or the sea takes you off your horse.

A horse can still travel with you in a rented car like any other animal.

An old game version without vehicle controls rides by walking with the arrow keys instead.

Feeding your animals

Animal feed and treat bags go in the trough at your barn.

Stand at your own barn, or your partner's, and use them there: one sack feeds every animal you keep.

Away from the barn, feed only reaches an animal walking with you.

Snares

A snare only catches animals that live on the map where it is set, and only while you are in the game.

It never gives meat, hide or a body by itself. It lures one animal and holds it on the snare square.

You are told where. Go there and kill it like any hunt: the body and what it drops are yours as usual, and the snare is set again.

If you take too long, about twenty to thirty minutes, the animal tears free, runs off and ruins the snare.

Small game walks in easily. Wolves, bears, lions, leopards and pythons only go for a baited snare, and they are dangerous: do not stand right on the snare.

To see your snares and what they hold, open Life plus, Horse riding and snares, Your snares.
