Frontier town and crystal lake
Two new places to visit. Frontier Town is an old gold mining town out in the desert. Crystal Lake is a quiet resort by a mountain lake. Each has its own people, jobs, work that pays every day, and ten jobs to finish. Open the menu with slash frontier, or Village life, More to do, Frontier Town and Crystal Lake. Everything else is done with shift enter at the right spot.
Getting there
Frontier Town: go to the hot desert. In the south west part of the desert there is a trail marker; stand on it and press shift enter. You arrive at the south end of Main Street. Walk back to the south edge of town and press shift enter to return.
Crystal Lake: go to the large lake. In the north east corner of the lake shore there is a road marker; stand on it and press shift enter. You arrive on the road below the lodge. Walk back to the south edge and press shift enter to return.
Frontier town, what is where
Main Street runs north from where you arrive. On the west side are the Lucky Horseshoe Saloon, Hollis General Store and the Assay Office. On the east side are the Sheriff's Office and the Stables. Gold Street crosses Main Street. Gold Creek is north of town, the mine is in the hills above the creek, and the ruined train station is east along the station road. The badlands to the south west are home to coyotes and python snakes, and a lion hides in Dry Gulch to the east. Take bandages.
Weather
Frontier Town is hot. Out in the sun you get thirsty much faster than usual. Inside the buildings, in the mine and standing in the cold water of Gold Creek the heat lets go. The water trough on Main Street is free: press shift enter to drink and splash your face, once a minute.
Crystal Lake is cold mountain air, and you shiver without warm clothes. Inside the lodge, the boathouse, the spa and the pine cabins, and at the campfire, you warm up.
The saloon
Rosa the barkeeper serves sarsaparilla for 5 points, cold lemonade for 6, black coffee for 8, a glass of milk for 6, a shot of rye whiskey for 10 and a plate of beans and cornbread for 15. The drinks take your thirst away; the cold ones, lemonade most of all, also cool you down. Coffee gives energy and helps sober you up. Whiskey goes to your head. The beans fill you up. Ten drinks and plates a day; after that Rosa pours you a free glass of water once a minute.
The card table: play twenty one against the house for 10, 25 or 50 points. Get closer to twenty one than the dealer without going over. The dealer draws to seventeen. A win pays double your stake, twenty one in your first two cards pays two and a half times, a tie gives your stake back. Twenty hands a day, and the house stops dealing to you after 300 points of winnings in a day. If the server restarts in the middle of a hand, your stake is returned the next time you log in.
The sheriff and the bounty board
The bounty board is by the sheriff's office door. Three wanted notices each day, for coyotes, python snakes or the lion. Read the board first; after that, every one you kill in and around Frontier Town counts. Come back to the board to collect points and a voyage token for each notice. The notices change every day.
Gold creek and the assay office
Stand on the gravel bank of Gold Creek and press shift enter to pan. About one pan in three turns up a gold nugget, up to twelve nuggets a day. Miss Carter at the assay office buys nuggets for 25 points each, up to ten a day, or you can keep them.
The stables and the store
Tom the stable hand has a daily chore, brushing and watering the horses, for a few points and a voyage token. He will also saddle a horse and ride you out to the badlands, Dry Gulch, the mine or the old station.
Mister Hollis sells water, juice, protein bars, bandages, bait, a pickaxe and a fishing rod. Ten buys a day.
Crystal lake, what is where
The road leads up to Crystal Lake Lodge, where Warden Maple, Chef Bastien and the freight desk are. The boathouse is on the shore east of the lodge, with the boat slip running out into the water, and the fishing pier is just west of the slip. The spa is east of the boathouse. The pine cabins and Old Greta are on the west side, and the campfire circle is south west of the lodge. The crystal caves open in the rocks on the east side, and the high trail climbs the east shore and runs along the northern ridge. Loon Island is in the middle of the lake, and the deep water can only be crossed by boat.
Boats
Ned the boatman hires a boat and a paddle for 40 points for twenty minutes, three times a day. Walk out along the boat slip to the water, hold the boat in one hand and the paddle in the other, face the way you want to go and use them to row. When the time is up Ned takes the boat back once you are on dry land or back at the slip. If you are still out on the water ten minutes later, he rows out and tows you back. If you have your own boat and paddle, you can row from the slip for nothing.
Fishing and lake trout
Fish from the pier or from a boat with any fishing rod. At Crystal Lake a lake trout often comes up with your catch, up to fifteen a day. Chef Bastien will grill a lake trout for you, up to five a day, which fills you up and gives energy.
The crystal caves
Walk into the crystal chamber and find the vein in the east wall. With a pickaxe, an iron pickaxe or a bronze pickaxe in your bag, press shift enter to strike it; masterwork pickaxes do not work here. Sometimes a crystal shard breaks away, up to ten a day; a bronze pickaxe finds them more often. Warden Maple buys shards for 20 points each, up to eight a day.
The campfire, the spa, the cabins and the high trail
At the campfire, press shift enter to hear one of eight old stories of the lake. Each new story pays a few points and a voyage token the first time you hear it. You can also just sit and warm up: the fire always takes the cold away and dries your clothes, and once every ten minutes it also gives a little energy.
Lina's spa costs 30 points: you come out clean, warm, dry and with much more energy. Three visits a day.
Inside any pine cabin, press shift enter to warm up by the stove; once every half hour you also rest there for some energy.
The high trail has four viewpoints: Pine Ridge lookout, Eagle Rock, Loon Point overlook and Crystal Falls overlook. Each pays a few points the first time each day, and all four in one day pay a walker's bonus and two voyage tokens.
Long haul freight
Take a sealed load from the freight window on the old station platform in Frontier Town to the lodge freight desk at Crystal Lake, or the other way. It is a long road through several places. Deliver within forty minutes for 250 points and three voyage tokens; late pays half. Two loads a day. You can give up a load from the same menu, but it still counts for the day.
Jobs
Each town has ten jobs. Talk to the people with shift enter to hear what they need: Sheriff Dalton, Rosa, Tom, Mister Hollis, Miss Carter, Old Jeb at the mine entrance and Old Abe at the station in Frontier Town; Warden Maple, Ned, Chef Bastien, Old Greta and Lina at Crystal Lake. Some jobs open only after an earlier one. Jobs pay once, in points, voyage tokens and sometimes an item. Your open jobs are listed under My jobs in the menu.
Limits
Every daily limit starts again at midnight, universal time. On top of each limit, the two towns together pay at most 900 points a day for repeatable work. Jobs are not part of that limit.
Standing, titles and trophies
Every place by plane remembers you. Your first landing each day, every sight on its sightseeing card, every postcard you send from there, every quest and every victory over its great beasts raise your standing in that place. Three quests done in one place earn the title Friend of that place, six a trophy as its honorary citizen. Your first victory over a great beast such as the Temple Guardian, the Reef Queen or Old Kuma puts a trophy in your cabinet. See the page The travel planner and your travel companion.
