Cars and roads
Open it from the game menu: Life plus, then Cars and roads. The chat command /carlife opens the same menu.
Every item below is also a menu entry, so you never need to remember a command.
CAR INSURANCE (/carinsurance)
A monthly comprehensive policy, 1500 points for 30 days. It covers up to two claims a month. Each month you finish
without a claim takes 10 percent off the next renewal, up to 50 percent off. It sits on top of the garage's own
weekly roadside plan, which still works as before.
CAR NAVIGATION (/navigate, /navstop)
Pick a town. While you drive, the navigator tells you every few seconds how far away that town's car park is and in
which direction. If the town is on another map, it tells you to take the road exit or travel point first. It also
warns you when today's road works are on your road. It beeps when you arrive. It switches itself off if you stop
driving for about two minutes.
Fuel warnings
When fuel gets low you hear how far you can still drive. A soft beep plays at 20 percent and a sharp beep at 5 percent,
so you can tell them apart without reading.
Motorcycle helmets
A helmet now really protects you. If you crash a motorcycle wearing a helmet, you take half the damage. Without one,
you take double.
PERSONAL TIME TRIAL (/timetrial)
Sit in the driving seat, mark a start, drive your course and mark the finish. Next time you drive it, a ghost pace
tells you every few seconds whether you are ahead of or behind your best run. A high beep means you are ahead and a low beep means you are behind.
GARAGE EXHAUST (/exhaust)
Four exhaust notes: quiet touring, deep rumble, sport crackle and loud straight pipe. You can listen to each one
free, and fitting one costs 800 points. Everyone near your car hears it each time you start the engine. Fitting the
factory exhaust again is free. You still choose the horn melody from your car's own menu.
Driving school and licence
This entry opens the driving school and licence menu, the same one /licence opens.
Rest stops
Every fuel pump is also a rest stop. Stop your car on the pump and open the car menu. You can buy a snack for
60 points, which eases hunger and gives you some energy, or use the washroom for free. Either one also clears
trucking fatigue.
BIKE SHARE (/bikeshare)
Every car park entrance is a bike share station. Borrowing a bike takes a 400 point deposit. You get it back in full
when you dock the bike at any car park entrance. If you have not docked the bike 9 hours after borrowing it, the
scheme keeps the deposit and you keep the bike.
HITCHHIKING (/hitchhike)
Stand outside your car, choose a town and wait. Between 25 and 70 seconds later a driver stops and takes you to that
town's car park for free. Each lift also gives you 40 points of spare change, up to 5 lifts a day.
ROAD WORKS (/roadworks)
Every day, works slow the road between two towns from 12:00 to 16:00 server time. This menu entry says which road,
and the navigator warns you about it too.
SECOND-HAND CAR DEALERSHIP (/usedcars)
List a car you have on hire. The price is set for you from its mileage, damage and dirt, so a dirty or damaged car
is worth less. It is worth washing your car first. A buyer gets the car together with the rest of its hire time.
The seller gets the price minus a 5 percent market fee. If the seller is offline, the money is waiting for them at
their next login. You can only buy a car while you have no car of your own out.
CAMPER VAN (/camper)
A camper van costs 6000 points and is yours to keep. Use it from your bag anywhere outdoors to set it down. Standing
beside it, you can rest inside every 30 minutes for energy and some health, or pack it away again. You cannot
drop or trade it.
LONG-HAUL TRUCKING (/trucking)
In a town, sit in the driving seat and sign for a load to another town. It pays 150 to 900 points, depending on the
distance. Drive the load there and deliver it from the same menu. Your fatigue builds as you drive, and a very long
haul makes you stop at a fuel pump rest stop before you can deliver. You can earn up to 2500 points a day from
trucking.
PRIVATE PARKING BAY (/parkingbay)
Rent your own numbered bay in row A or B of any car park, right by the entrance, for 3000 points for 30 days. Renew
it any time, up to 90 days ahead; you are reminded three days before it runs out. Only you and your spouse may park
there and your car is never fined in it. Anybody else who leaves a car in your bay is treated as parked outside a car
park: the meter runs and a tow truck may take it. Press K in the car park to hear the tenant's name on each private bay.
TOW TRUCK WORK (/towtruck)
Look at the tow jobs on your map: illegally parked cars whose parking meter has started, cars broken down outside a car
park, cars in somebody else's private bay, and cars abandoned by owners who have been away for over two weeks. Take a
job, follow the beacon and the spoken directions, pull up within 5 steps, stop and choose Hook up. After the winch the
car goes to the pound: back into its owner's bag, so nothing is lost. The owner pays a tow fee of one parking fine; you
earn 15 percent of what the owner can really pay of it (at most 1000 points a car), or 150 points for an abandoned car. At most 3000 points a day and one
car per owner a day. 25 tows earn the title Tow Truck Operator, 100 the Golden Hook trophy.
TAXI TIPS AND VIP (/taxivip)
After a taxi ride with a player driver that you paid in full, you rate the driver and can tip 10 to 200 points (at
most 1000 a day). The tip goes straight to the driver. Drivers with 5 tips worth 300 points, or a rating of 4.5 or
better over 10 rides, wear the VIP driver badge: passengers hear a chime and "VIP driver" as they get in. Passengers
who have tipped 5 times, 250 points or more, are VIP passengers: their taxi calls come first and they go to the front
of the queue at a taxi stand.
TAXI STAND QUEUE (/taxiqueue)
At a player taxi stand, press shift and enter and choose Queue here for a taxi. Drivers of the stand join its rank with
their taxi. The front passenger is matched with the front taxi; everybody hears their place in the queue, how many are
ahead and the estimated wait, and hears again every time the queue moves. The driver is then guided to you by the
beacon. Walking away from the stand or getting into a car takes you out of the queue.
COACH TIMETABLE (/coachtimes)
The coaches between the village and Palmera Bay run on a timetable: one leaves each end every 2 minutes. Board early
and wait in your seat, or press shift and enter twice in your seat to step off before it leaves. At a coach stop you
hear when the next coach leaves, a one-minute call and a last call, and any delay and its reason.
Leaving the game with your car outside a car park
If your car stands somewhere it costs parking fines when you press Escape to leave, the "really exit?" question now
starts with a warning about it, so you can pack the car or park it first. (Needs the updated game.)
