Fancy block shelter
How to build a fancy block shelter, step by step. It is a long job: every wall is made of fired clay blocks and mortar, and it takes a great many of them. The quick way is to buy the shelter for 500 credits in the credit shop. Everything below is done with the combine key (T) unless it says fire: then you hold that one item alone, in one hand with the other hand empty, stand on a burning fire and press the combine key. If you lose your place, hold any piece alone and the game tells you what it goes with next.
Phase 1: Clay blocks
1. Wood in both hands: a precarious block.
2. Precarious block and clay: a block. Block and clay: a sticky block.
3. A sticky block in each hand: a huge block.
4. Huge block and 5 clay: a huge sticky block.
5. Huge sticky block and a shaft: a pegged huge sticky block. That and another shaft: a double pegged huge sticky block.
6. A huge sticky block and a pegged huge sticky block, then three more pegged ones one by one: a sticky row of huge blocks.
7. Fire: a sticky row becomes a row of huge blocks, a double pegged huge sticky block becomes a double pegged huge block, and a pegged huge sticky block becomes a pegged huge block.
Phase 2: Mortar
1. Open oysters with a knife to get oyster shells. A skillet and 10 oyster shells, then the hammer twice: first crushed, then powdered shells.
2. Hold the skillet alone and combine: you get 10 powdered oyster shells and your skillet back.
3. 10 clay and 10 glue: 10 sticky clay. 10 powdered oyster shells and 10 sticky clay: 10 cheap clay mortar.
Phase 3: Thatch for the roof
Before you start, the string. Grass in both hands: 10 grass become 1 string. String in both hands: 20 string become 1 tied string. Tied string in both hands: 5 tied string become 1 large tied string. These are this game's own amounts, higher than in guides written for other games. You do NOT need large tied strings for this shelter: every roof loop and every floor tie can be made from one plain tied string (a large tied string still works too, it just costs five times as much). The whole shelter then needs 24 tied strings for the loops and ties (16 for the roof, 8 for the floor frames) plus 8 more for the floor: 32 tied strings, which is 640 string, a quarter of what it used to take. String is quickest from wool: wool and a knife give 3 string. Add 480 grass for the bunches.
1. Hold one tied string alone and combine: a looped large tied string (a large tied string held alone gives the same loop).
2. Add 25 grass, then 20, then 15: a small, a medium and then a large bunch of grass on the loop.
3. The large bunch and another looped large tied string: a double looped large bunch of grass. The roof needs 8 of them.
Phase 4: Walls
1. A row of huge blocks and a double pegged huge block: a single pegged row. Add another double pegged huge block: a double pegged row.
2. A double pegged row and a row: L shaped. Add a row: U shaped. A U shaped row and a double pegged row: a shelter block square.
3. Cover a square with mortar, 5 at a time, four times: a mortar covered square.
4. Two mortar covered squares together, then the hammer: half walls. Cover the half walls with mortar, 5 at a time, four times.
5. Two mortar covered half walls together, then the hammer: block shelter walls.
Phase 5: Roof
1. A U shaped row with 2 mortar, twice: a mortar covered U shaped row.
2. That and the block shelter walls, then the hammer: walls with a roof support.
3. Add the 8 double looped bunches of grass: a floorless block shelter.
4. Add one more mortar covered square, then 20 mortar: a block shelter with a mortar covered floor support.
Phase 6: Floor
1. A sticky double notched very long shaft and a very long shaft, then a tied string (or a large tied string): a sticky floor half frame. Make two and put them together, then a tied string: a flimsy floor frame.
2. Add 4 sticky double notched very long shafts, then a tied string. Make two of these and put them together.
3. Add 8 tied string, then 5 glue, then 20 planks: block shelter floor 1.
4. The hammer, with a pointed stone in your bag: a holey floor.
Phase 7: Chairs and table
1. A sturdy plank and the hammer, with a pointed stone in your bag: a plank with four holes. Add 2 sticky shafts, then a sticky long shaft, then a sticky plank: a simple chair. Make four.
2. Add the four chairs to the holey floor one by one, then four pegged huge blocks one by one for the table, then 4 sticky planks: block shelter floor 2.
Phase 8: Finishing
1. Block shelter floor 2 and the block shelter with the mortar covered floor support, then the hammer: your fancy block shelter. Use it from your bag where you want it to stand. The game asks you to confirm first, because a fancy block shelter can be destroyed by players with PK on.
