Farming in Life in Nature rewards a little patience and a pail of something unpleasant.

Where the pail comes from. Cleaning out a dirty toilet, or mucking out your own barn, gives you a pail.

The compost heap. Put the pail down on open ground to start a compost heap. Leave it for about four hours. Then lift it as manure: Village life, living off the land, compost heaps.

What manure does. Used on a planted crop it makes the crop grow faster. Used on bare soil it makes the soil richer for whatever you plant next.

Bone meal. Crushed bone also makes compost, so nothing from a hunt needs to go to waste.

Placing. A compost heap, like a shelter, a stall, a barn, a hive, a snare, a net, a mushroom log or a plant, cannot be put on a square that already has something on it; the game tells you what is already there. If two things do end up on one square, pressing shift and enter there opens a short menu asking which one you mean, so nothing is ever unreachable.
