First of all, you must accept this quest from the quest menu, among the unaccepted quests.
Explanations:
Go to the village map, press the K key and track gallows.
Note:

Track and pick up the item captain_max's_corpse.

Go forward enough until you hit the column.

•
Go to the end forward until you stand on the ladder
