COMMON QUESTIONS - HOW DO I DO THIS?
These are the things players ask about most often in support tickets. Everything here is in the game
already; this page just tells you where to find it.
FISHING NETS
Set a net by standing in the water and using the fishing net from your bag. The net stays in the water and
keeps fishing while you are away, and the item leaves your bag while it is out there. To empty it or take it
back, stand on it or within three steps of it and press shift and enter: a menu opens with "haul the net"
(take the fish and leave the net fishing) and "pull the net out" (take the fish and get the net back in your
bag). The same menu is also under Village life, then Living off the land, then Fishing nets. A net takes
about ten minutes to catch anything and you can have two out at once.
BAIT
Bait makes fish bite sooner and changes which species you get. Worms come from digging and from compost,
dough is made in the kitchen, and meat bait is cut from any raw meat. Prepared bait is made at the workshop
(Village life, then Kitchen and health, then Glass, leather, remedies and bait) and counts as the right bait
for every species. You do not have to hold bait to fish, but you will wait longer without it.
TAMING ANIMALS AND THE BARN
Build a barn first: use the barn from your bag on a clear square outdoors. Then find a young or calm animal
in the world and use feed on it; a tamed animal follows you home and lives in your barn. The barn menu
(Village life, then Living off the land, then Animals of your own) shows every animal you have, collects
eggs and milk, and lets you send an animal out to graze or bring it back to you. If your animal is not
following you, open that menu and tell it to come.
PLANTED TREES AND WATERING
A tree you plant belongs to you and grows on its own; watering it makes it grow faster. Stand at the tree
and press shift and enter, and the menu will offer to water it if you are carrying water. When it is ready
the same menu offers the harvest. A tree that says it is ready but gives you nothing is usually somebody
else's tree, or you are standing one square off.
COMPOST HEAPS
A compost heap is set down like anything else and turns rubbish and food scraps into manure. Stand on the
heap and press shift and enter: the menu that opens collects the manure and can lift the heap back into your
bag. The same menu is under Village life, Living off the land, Compost heaps. The manure it makes is
collected from the same menu, and manure makes crops grow faster and bigger.
CLEANING WORK
Rubbish you pick up while cleaning goes into your bag and is worth money. Take it to a trashcan and use the
rubbish on it, or press shift and enter at the trashcan. Trashcans are in the village and around the busier
maps; your surroundings scan will find the nearest one.
THE CHARITY BOX
The charity box is in the village near the town office. Stand at it and press shift and enter: you can put
in points, credits or items, and what is inside is shared with new players. Giving to it is remembered on
your record.
CALLING THE POLICE
The court and the police are under Village life, then Town and law. From there you can report a crime,
which brings the constables, and see what is being investigated. Reporting somebody for cheating you in a
deal is a separate option under Work and money.
HERBS AND REMEDIES
Herbs you gather are turned into remedies at the workshop: Village life, then Kitchen and health, then
Glass, leather, remedies and bait. The kit tells you which herb makes which remedy and how many you need.
MOVING YOUR HOME
Your home can be picked up and set down somewhere else for a fee from the home menu (Village life, then
Home and comfort, then Your home). If the menu says you are not inside your shelter, step through the front
door first: the menu only works from inside.
